Members of the Internal Security Agency at Misrata International Airport successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle gold and foreign currency while performing routine passenger baggage inspections for travelers heading to Turkey on Sama Al-Mutawasit Airlines on Saturday, 21 September 2024.
During a thorough inspection, the officers discovered 100 kilograms and 800 grams of gold along with €1.5 million, distributed across four suitcases. The gold was found in three of the suitcases, while the money was placed in the fourth.
Based on these findings, the individuals responsible for the suitcases were detained.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office was notified and granted judicial officers permission to proceed with the investigation of the case.
